there's a huge difference between the american and samoan society.  the u.s. is deeply rooted in (Christianity) religion which I believe evades your argument.

As far as the debate going on above, I've seen economic needs define (transform might be a better word) the course of a religion.  Look at slavery.

Why are we comparing economics and human sexuality?  The basis for this is sexual. Since when do men have to act as women to fulfill  sterotypical/tradtional gender roles. Let's call this what it is. It's a socially acceptable way to satisfy the homosexual needs of  the male Samoan society. The Samoans are pretty crafty though. The method is awesome for reducing critism. "Hey, I am not a homosexual...my partner is a Fafafini." They should all move to Atlanta. They's fit in pefectly. ;)
